FileZilla Client FAQ

  1. I can’t transfer any file or I can't list the contents of any directory on the server. The system shows “Critical transfer errors”. I can’t connect to my server. It is likely that the problem is in incorrect configuration of either FileZilla, your firewall, your router or a combination of it. Please see the Network Configuration guide.

  2. Where are all the sites and settings of FileZilla? The location of FileZilla’s settings depends on your operating system. In most systems, go to ~/.FileZilla directory. The odd exception is Windows, where the settings are stored in the %APPDATA%/FileZilla directory.

  3. Why can’t I start the FileZilla? It probably might happen because for some reason your FileZilla installation or the settings get corrupted. First, try to reinstall the FileZilla, you settings will not be changed. If that doesn’t work, delete FileZilla's settings directory (see above). Remeber that all your settings and sites are lost if you do this without taking a backup.

  4. Why can not I start FileZilla under Windows 95, 98, ME, NT4 or 2000, it terminates with a runtime error? The most recent versions of FileZilla no longer support Windows 9x/ME/NT4/2000. Please upgrade your OS to Windows XP or higher. We do not recommend uing older versions of FileZilla because of the known security vulnerabilities.
